Requesting/Inquiring: To draft an ordinance that establishes a Task Force on the future of utility undergrounding in the City and County of San Francisco. The task force will be comprised of 19 members as follows:

ú Each member of the Board of Supervisors shall nominate a member who resides in their Supervisoral District;

ú Four members to be named by the Mayor;

ú Two members representing San Francisco's Department of Public Works and Public Utilities Commission, nominated by the head of each Department; and

ú Two members representing Pacific Gas and Electric and SBC to be designated by the respective Company Director.

The Task Force will consider the future of utility undergrounding beyond the current 42-mile undergrounding program established pursuant to the settlement of litigation between the City and County of San Francisco and PG&E. Given increasing costs in the current program, there is uncertainty as to the prospects to maintain the pace of undergrounding in the next phase.
