From: Supervisor Alioto-Pier
To: City Attorney
Requesting/Inquiring: As we are aware, climate change presents a serious threat to San Francisco in a myriad of ways. One way to locally combat carbon emissions that are contributing to overall global warming and its devastating effects is to require the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to make certain that our public schools meet their energy needs through solar power. Thus, I am introducing a request that the City Attorney draft a resolution urging the SFPUC and the SFUSD to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding to undertake an audit program to evaluate power and water use and requirements of the SFUSD facilities. The purpose of the audit is to identify opportunities to increase efficiency of SFUSD resource consumption and assess opportunities for SFPUC to achieve conservation objectives at our public school facilities. The goal for any implementation necessary to achieve optimal energy efficiency at each facility should be December 31, 2009.
