090313  [San Francisco's public safety conditions on citywide crime levels]  Supervisor Chiu 
Hearing on San Francisco's public safety conditions, including a discussion of citywide crime levels and crime levels by police district station and/or neighborhood. The hearing shall include a presentation from the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice and/or the San Francisco Police Department, which shall provide all information relevant to the discussion. The information provided shall include, without limitation: (1) update on crime statistics citywide and broken down by police district station and/or neighborhood; (2) data and plans on the progress of crime fighting strategies and crime prevention programs; (3) reports on arrests, charges, and prosecutions made; and (4) any other relevant information. To the extent possible, data shall be broken down by ethnicity, gender, age, or any other relevant category.

Ordinance amending the Administrative Code to authorize the Chief of Police to select for appointment to non-civil service ranks above the rank of Captain any sworn law enforcement officer with supervisory experience, either with the San Francisco Police Department or with any local, state or federal agency that employs sworn law enforcement officers.

AMENDED, AN AMENDMENT OF THE WHOLE BEARING NEW TITLE. 

Ordinance amending the Administrative Code to authorize the Chief of Police to appoint to any non-civil service rank above the rank of Captain (a) any member of the Police Department who has had supervisory experience over other sworn law enforcement officers; and (b) for a period of five years from the effective date of this ordinance, any sworn law enforcement officer with such supervisory experience from any local, state or federal agency that employs sworn law enforcement officers, provided that only one such officer may hold an appointment at any one time.
RECOMMENDED AS AMENDED by the following vote: 
Ayes: 3 - Chiu, Mirkarimi, Alioto-Pier
