Requests Granted
From: Supervisor Newsom

To: Director, Department of Building Inspection

Requesting/Inquiring: To provide a report detailing information regarding the status of those residential hotel rooms that have been lost by fire. Specifically, the report should include the date of the fire, the number of rooms damaged, the status of refurbishing these rooms and the timeline for completion, and the obstacles preventing timely restoration.

From: Supervisor Newsom

To: General Manager, Recreation and Park Department

Requesting/Inquiring: Follow up to letter sent from the Board of Supervisors last season regarding the Gay Softball League, in which the following concerns were raised: (1) chalking of the fields (Reportedly this service occurs only 50% of the time.); (2) access to and condition of bathrooms (Reportedly, bathrooms were locked approximately 35% of the time. Also of concern: cleanliness of bathrooms, toilet paper and other paper supplies, working lights, homeless persons sleeping in the hallways.); (3) access to the fields (Reportedly, the gates were locked and players had to either climb over or crawl under the fence.); (4) access to Recreation and Park personnel on the weekend, when most games are played. Further updating the previous season’s letter with new queries through the League. Specifically, can you confirm the report that only one field was open for playing softball this past weekend, leading to picking of locks, the threat of cutting locks with a bolt-cutter, and players crawling through a hole in the fence in order to have access to the fields? What is the Department doing to change this situation? Two fields in particular were mentioned: Kimball and Lang Fields.

From: Supervisor Ammiano

To: City Attorney; Chair, Airport Community Roundtable

Requesting/Inquiring: To notify the City Attorney and Director

Meeting Procedures
The Board of Supervisors is the Legislative Body of the City and County of San Francisco. The Board considers ordinances and resolutions, most of which have been the subject of hearings before the standing committees of the board at which members of the public are urged to testify. The full Board does not hold a second public hearing on measures which have been heard in committee. Board procedures do not permit persons in the audience to vocally express support or opposition to statements by Supervisors or by other persons testifying. Thus applause and booing are both contrary to Board requirements. The Board does not permit signs to be brought into the meeting or displayed in the room. Citizens are encouraged to testify at Board hearings and to write letters to the Board and to its members, City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, Room 244, San Francisco, CA 94102. Agenda are available on the internet at www.ci.sf.ca.us/bdsupvrs.bos.htm. THE AGENDA PACKET IS AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW AT CITY HALL, ROOM 244, RECEPTION DESK. Board meetings are televised on channel 26. For video tape copies and scheduling call (415) 557-4293. Results of each Board meeting can be obtained about a half hour after the end of the meeting by telephoning (415) 554-5555. Requests for foreign language translation at a meeting must be received by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors at least 48 hours before the meeting. For meetings on a Monday or a Tuesday, the request must be made by noon of the last business day of the preceding week.
