Tuesday, May 26, 1998 - 5:00 p.m. The Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco met in special session at the Southeast Community Facility, 1800 Oakdale Avenue, on the above date with President Barbara Kaufman presiding.

CALLINGTHEROLL
The meeting was called to order at 5:10 p.m. On call of the roll, the following Supervisors were noted present: Supervisors Ammiano, Bierman, Brown, Kaufman, Leno, Medina, Newsom, Teng, Yaki, Yee-10. Noted absent at first roll call: Supervisor Katz - 1.

Quorum present.

Supervisor Katz excused. (See infra.) SupervisorKatzExcused The Clerk stated Supervisor Katz requested to be excused from attending today’s meeting. Supervisor Yee, seconded by Supervisor Teng, moved to excuse Supervisor Katz from attendance. Motion adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Supervisors Ammiano, Bierman, Brown, Kaufman, Leno, Medina, Newsom, Teng, Yaki, Yee-10. Absent: Supervisor Katz-1. DancePresentation Supervisor Teng, seconded by Supervisor Brown, moved to suspend the Board’s rule to permit dance presentation by youths to welcome the Supervisors and public to the Board of Supervisors’ meeting held at the Southeast Community Facility. No objection and motion carried. The Bay View Hunters Point/Community Youth Park Foundation performed "Dance of Praise". Presentation Supervisor Brown, seconded by Supervisor Leno, moved to suspend the Board’s rule in order to present certificate of honor to Lejon Loggins. No objection and motion carried. Each member of the Board of Supervisors joined Supervisor Brown in acknowledging the brave act of Lejon Loggins in alerting members of the Singleton family when fire developed in their home.

There being no objection, the Board directed the Clerk to comply with the following requests: By Supervisor Yee, that the Clerk of the Board transmit letter to the Director, Human Rights Commission concerning the Human Rights Commission April 1995 report, which contained seven findings and eleven recommendations, on racially and ethnically motivated violence at the Housing Authority developments. The Supervisor would like to know what steps the Human Rights Commission has taken to see whether or not these recommendations were ever implemented and what role the Human Rights Commission has in monitoring instances of racially and ethnically motivated violence at the Housing Authority developments. By Supervisor Yee, that the Clerk of the Board transmit letter to Executive Director, San Francisco Housing Authority requesting written response on the implementation status of the Vietnamese American Coalition for Civil Rights recommendations approved by the Board of Supervisors in December 1997 and status report on the Housing Authority’s response to the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s report entitled, The San Francisco Housing Authority Recovery Effort and Transition Recommendations. By Supervisor Bierman, that City Attorney advise whether a taxi commission created by a charter amendment could change the rules that were established by Proposition K for issuing taxi medallions.
