The inventory should include appropriate recommendations and parameters outlining suitable development from the Planning Department’s current zoning controls.

By Supervisor Becerril, that letter be sent to the Fire Chief asking about Department plans for Fiscal Year 1999-2000 for the maintenance of Landmark 89, Firehouse Engine Co. #2, at 1152 Oak Street, in order to make the site compliant with landmark regulations contained in the Planning Code.

By Supervisor Becerril, that letter be sent to the Police Chief asking what outreach and education is conducted by the Police Department to inform non-English speaking residents about the availability of multi-lingual operators on the 911 (Emergency) and 553-0123 (Non-Emergency) lines. Residents of Chinatown recently testified before the Housing and Social Policy Committee that there is currently no way to report emergency and non-emergency situations in Chinese. Community members may be unaware of current city services or wary of using them. A targeted educational campaign may be helpful in encouraging community members to report crimes and other safety issues and in bringing to the fore any problems with existing services for non-English speakers.

By Supervisor Becerril, that letter be sent to the Director, Planning Department, inquiring as to the number of existing as well as projected housing units within a quarter mile of a major transit corridor.
