Former Supervisor Julie Christensen - District 3
Overview
Julie Christensen was appointed by San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee in January 2015 to serve on the Board of Supervisors as the representative for District 3 which includes Chinatown, Nob Hill, Russian Hill, North Beach, Fisherman’s Wharf, Polk Street, the Financial District and Union Square.
Julie has over twenty years experience working with elected officials, City departments, community organizations and neighborhood volunteers on an extensive list of civic projects including: Extension of the Central Subway to the northern waterfront; the long struggle to locate and build a new North Beach Library; twenty years of work on Coit Tower and the surrounding Pioneer Park, including creating wheelchair access to the tower and improving pedestrian access and safety; the redesign of Helen Wills Park in Russian Hill; restoration and expansion of the North Beach Pool and Clubhouse; fifteen years of efforts to green and optimize North Beach’s Joe DiMaggio Playground and numerous streetscape projects, including Columbus Avenue, Kearny and Lombard Streets.
Julie is a 35-year resident of San Francisco. She opened a small business in the district in 1982 and moved her residence to District 3 in 1993. She lives in North Beach with husband Greg Smith, a San Francisco native and small business owner, and their SPCA mutt, Cooper. She has a 28-year old stepson.
