VACANCY NOTICE

 

CLOSE JUVENILE HALL WORKING GROUP

 

Replaces all Previous Notices

 

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN of the following vacancies, upcoming term expirations and information on currently held seats, appointed by the Board of Supervisors:

 

Seat 1, Christina Gomez, indefinite term, shall be held by a representative of a community-based non-profit that serves juvenile justice-involved youth and is a member of the Juvenile Justice Providers Association.

 

Seat 2, Valentina Sedeno, indefinite term, shall be held by a representative of a community-based non-profit that serves juvenile justice-involved youth and is a member of the Juvenile Justice Providers Association.

 

Vacant Seat 3, Charles Peacock (resigned), indefinite term, shall be held by a person under the age of 29 who was previously detained or incarcerated.

 

Vacant Seat 4, Kandy Kalani Ifopo (resigned), indefinite term, shall be held by a person under the age of 29 who was previously detained or incarcerated.

 

Seat 5, Joanna Hernandez, indefinite term, shall be held by a parent or guardian of a person who is or was detained as a youth in the juvenile justice system.

 

Seat 6, Lonnie Holmes, indefinite term, shall be held by an expert in the design of small, rehabilitative, and education-focused centers that meet the needs of young people who following their arrest or detention cannot return to their home or community.

 

Seat 7, Denise Coleman, indefinite term, shall be held by an expert in youth mental illness, with experience serving the juvenile justice population, and expertise in best practices for serving youth with mental illness.

 

Seat 8, Daniel Macallair, indefinite term, shall be held by an expert in juvenile justice reform with experience in data analysis and the development of alternatives to detention.

 

Seat 9, Constance Walker, indefinite term, shall be held by a member of the labor community.

 

Seat 10, Deborah Bill, indefinite term, shall be held by a non-management employee working in Juvenile Hall.

 

Seat 11, Samuel Carr, indefinite term, shall be held by a non-management employee working in Juvenile Hall.

 

Report:  The Working Group shall prepare and submit a report every six months that describes the Working Group’s progress in fulfilling their duties.

 

Sunset Date:  The Working Group shall terminate when the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer certifies in writing that Juvenile Hall is closed and there is a substitute place or places of detention, approved by the Courts, that is available for wards of the Court and persons alleged to come within the jurisdiction of the Court.

Goodlett Place, Room 244, San Francisco, CA 94102-4689.  Completed applications should be submitted to the Clerk of the Board.  All applicants must be residents of San Francisco, unless otherwise stated.

 

Next Steps:  Applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be contacted by the Rules Committee Clerk once the Rules Committee Chair determines the date of the hearing.  Members of the Rules Committee will consider the appointment(s) at the meeting and applicant(s) may be asked to state their qualifications.  The appointment(s) of the individual(s) who are recommended by the Rules Committee will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final approval.
