The San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC)
AMENDED SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING PARTICIPATION OF MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IN MEETINGS OF THE SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CENTRAL COMMITTEE
Several members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (who may comprise a majority of one or more Board committees) currently also serve as members of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC).
California law (the Brown Act), the City Charter and the San Francisco Sunshine Ordinance provide that any gathering of a majority of the members of the Board of Supervisors or of a committee of the Board to discuss matters within the Board's subject matter jurisdiction constitutes a meeting of the Board of Supervisors. These laws require that any such meeting be open to the public and noticed and conducted in compliance with the Brown Act and the Sunshine Ordinance.
The DCCC is not a City agency, does not speak for or act on behalf of the City, and cannot transact City business. But the DCCC may discuss matters that could fall within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Board of Supervisors.
No law addresses whether attendance of a majority of the full Board or of its committees at a meeting of the DCCC would fall under the public meeting requirements of the Brown Act, Charter, or Sunshine Ordinance. Out of an abundance of caution, those Board members serving on the DCCC will comply with these open meeting laws.
For current meeting notices and to view agendas, see the DCCC website at http://www.sfdemocrats.org/meetings. Notices, meeting agendas and minutes will also be posted at the San Francisco Library.
