I recently had the honor of celebrating the opening of the new
Holbrook House Restaurant & Bar at One Sansome Street, which has recently opened its doors as a luxurious dining spot that is definitely worth a visit. The venue exudes classic San Francisco vibes, with an elevated contemporary American cuisine crafted by acclaimed Chef Holly Stevens. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and happy hour from Monday to Friday. It’s worth noting the historic Albert Pissis-designed conservatory adjoins the restaurant and is a majestic privately owned public space available to the public 8:00am to 8:00pm on weekdays.
We're witnessing an exciting transformation of Downtown as I introduce SF Artistry—
ART4U2, a pop-up art studio and gallery nestled amidst the urban landscape of the Embarcadero Center. Linda Eckmann, a remarkable 77-year-old artist, is the creative force behind this venture, which will debut with a soft opening on
September 28th . Linda's vision for live art displays and engaging creative exercises using intriguing tools is truly inspiring. This initiative, supported by the property owner BXP, offers Linda the space rent-free for three months, with potential extensions, serving as a proof of concept for revitalizing vacant spaces creatively. It's my hope that this model will inspire other building owners to embrace similar initiatives. Downtown San Francisco's revival involves creating vibrant spaces for art, culture, and community, and this project is a significant step in that direction. Before you stretch the imagination, you have to create what's possible and that means injecting life into the area with restaurants, entertainment, arts and culture destinations.
The Union Square Alliance
calendar is brimming with outdoor events that cater to every taste. Whether you're a dance enthusiast, a film buff, a music lover, or a fan of live theater, there is something worth coming downtown for.
Be on the lookout for more improvements coming soon, funded through legislation I passed to create a Union Square public realm improvement fund through office conversion fees. The City was able to invest $600,000 earlier this year for a new soundstage for world-class music and performance acts, as well as $200,000 for pedestrian streetscape improvements to Maiden Lane, one of the neighborhood’s most enchanting attractions.
There’s going to be an unforgettable celebration at
John's Grill, a San Francisco institution renowned as one of America's top 10 restaurants. Nestled in the heart of the city, John's Grill has been a historic fixture for 115 years, making it as iconic as the Golden Gate Bridge and the cable cars. On
Wednesday, October 4, 11:30am to 2:30pm , John Konstin and The John’s Grill Team invite you to a lively block party filled with festivities. Enjoy complimentary lunch and wine with a delectable menu featuring Caesar Salad, Sundried Tomato & Cheese Ravioli, Lamb Chops, Filet Mignon Medallions, Chicken Marsala, and a delightful Dessert Assortment. The entertainment lineup includes a captivating performance by Smuin Contemporary Ballet and a show by America's Got Talent entertainer, Lawrence Baeman. Live music will set the mood, and you can participate in a raffle for a chance to win one of four seats of round-trip tickets generously donated by United Airlines. No RSVP required; just come and join the festivities at 63 Ellis Street.
Come to Chinatown's 2nd Contemporary Art Festival, "Under the Same Sun," on
September 30, 5:00pm to 10:00pm. Located at 800 Grant Avenue,
Edge on the Square is your destination for this cultural extravaganza in the heart of San Francisco's Chinatown. Edge on the Square is a vibrant place-based cultural hub that passionately celebrates, explores, and supports innovative creative expressions where community, art, and multi-racial democracy intersect.
Finally, my office continues to work with city departments to create a plan to utilize the $6 million I supported for the revamping of the Powell Street Promenade, and working to bring a Food Hall of local favorites to the gateway to Union Square by the cable car turnaround.
