A Message From The Supervisor:
I hope everyone is staying safe as inclement weather continues this weekend in San Francisco. Please see below for a few key reminders:
- Keep 9-1-1 available for life and safety emergencies. Report non-life threatening storm-related issues such as clogged catch basins, residential or street flooding, sewer backups, or wastewater odors to 311 online at sf311.org, on the 311 mobile app for Android and iPhone, or by calling 3-1-1.
- Avoid driving during heavy rains and winds. If you have to be out, then stay away from flooded areas and downed power lines, whether in a car or on foot. Do not drive through water more than 6 inches deep.
- If the power goes out, unplug and turn off appliances. Leave one light on to signal when power is restored.
- Avoid using candles during power outages to prevent fire hazards. Use flashlights or head lamps instead.
- Do not touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.
- Stay informed: tune-in to KCBS (740 AM or 106.9 FM), local TV channels, or social media (@sf_emergency; @sfwater; @sfpublicworks; @sfdph) for emergency advisories and instructions.
- Check on friends and family who may need assistance during the storm, especially elderly, homebound, or neighbors with disabilities.
January and February are two extraordinary months where we get to celebrate the diversity that makes San Francisco a wonderful place to live. We will start this weekend by kicking off Lunar New Year celebrations for the Year of the Rabbit.
Yesterday, I stood with City leaders and SF SAFE to reiterate our commitment to public safety for the AAPI community during Lunar New Year. As we celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, please be careful with your belongings, cautious when taking out cash, and vigilant in recognizing scams. Our law enforcement partners are here to support the community and ensure that we have a safe and happy Lunar New Year!
This weekend, we will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Day. On his birthday, we remember the work of the great civil rights leader, minister, and family member. Dr. King said many great things but I am often moved when I am reminded of the following statement, “The time is always right to do what is right.” The quote calls for immediate action on injustice and empowers everyone to be a part of the solution. I admire Dr. King and his work and I was happy to celebrate his legacy with many of you during today's 39th Dr. Martin Luther King Luncheon hosted by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department. In addition, I am happy to be attending the first annual youth arts competition inspired by the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his historic visit to the Cow Palace in 1964.
We are available by email: safaistaff@sfgov.org or by phone 415-554-6976 (leave a message and we will call you back). You can also check for updates on my Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook .
Please note - if you miss my weekly newsletter, you may find it later on the Board of Supervisor’s website. Click HERE to read past newsletters.

Balboa Park Station Plaza Construction
As part of improvements being made at Balboa Park Station, Bay Area Rapid Transit will construct a plaza and new passenger loading zone on the south side of Geneva Ave, between the I-280 off-ramp and San Jose Ave. began on Monday, December 5, 2022.
The first phase of this work is planned to be complete by the end of December and will reconstruct a portion of the sidewalk and the Muni bus stop. During this work, the bus stop will be relocated slightly to the east, at the crosswalk for the old passenger loading zone, which will be closed to vehicles.
Barricades and temporary signage will be installed to provide safe access for pedestrians along Geneva Ave and to the BART A1 Entrance. The BART entrance will remain open during this first phase. The map below shows the locations of barricades and the bus stop. The pedestrian pathway is shown as a dashed blue line.
We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Mission Street and Geneva Avenue Infrastructure Improvement Project
Project Update:
Construction has started on Geneva Avenue from Prague Street to Mission Street.
Project Description:
San Francisco Public Works, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), and the San Francisco Public Utilities are partnering to bring safety improvements and infrastructure upgrades to the Excelsior and Outer Mission neighborhoods. The Mission Street and Geneva Avenue Infrastructure Improvement Project includes approximately forty sidewalk bulb-outs, upgraded traffic signals at twenty locations, sewer main replacement at ten locations, concrete street base replacement work and street repaving throughout the project area. The project limits are:
- Geneva Avenue: Prague Street to Mission Street
- Mission Street: Geneva Avenue to Highway 280 Overpass (Trumbull Street)
Mission Street and Geneva Avenue are part of San Francisco's Vision Zero High Injury Network - the 13% of city streets where 75% of the severe and fatal collisions occur. The City and County of San Francisco adopted Vision Zero as a policy in 2014, committing to build better and safer streets, educate the public on traffic safety, enforce traffic laws, and adopt policy changes that save lives. The goal is to create a culture that prioritizes traffic safety and to ensure that mistakes on our roadways don’t result in serious injuries or death. The result of this collaborative, citywide effort will be safer, more livable streets as we work to eliminate traffic fatalities.
