February 16, 2021
A Message From The Supervisor:
On Friday, February 12, 2021, I had the pleasure of joining the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Mayor London Breed, my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors, and members of the Chinese community to celebrate Lunar New Year in Chinatown. While the size of the celebration was starkly different from 2019, the spirit of the event was the same. This event really exhibited our City's resiliency.Â
Â
The resiliency I witnessed in the Chinese community is the same resiliency that I constantly see in our District time and time again. I continue to marvel on how District 11 residents have continued to support our local businesses and  our most vulnerable residents. While our district has had higher rates of COVID positivity, we have been able to control the spread of COVID-19 in our neighborhoods because of the support and commitment to our community based organizations including but not limited to -Excelsior Works, Latino Taskforce, and INVEST BLACK Coalition. These great organizations and community stakeholders have been the nucleus of keeping our community safe. In February, Excelsior Works and the Latino Taskforce opened a community hub to support our residents, in particular our Latino residents and undocumented community members to combat the multitude of issues that has arise from the COVID-19 pandemic. Located at 4834 Mission - this Hub is serving hundreds of District 11 residents. In addition, our OMI-INVEST BLACK Coalition site will be opening shortly. Â
Â
While vaccines have arrived, the supply flow has not been able to meet the needs of San Francisco residents. My office continues to use this newsletter as the best channel to reach residents. Please also note, if you miss my weekly newsletter, you may find it later on the Board of Supervisor’s website. Click HERE to read past newsletters.
Although our City Hall Office is closed to the public due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are still here to serve you. If you have any difficulty during this time, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are available by email: safaistaff@sfgov.org or by phone 415-554-6976 (leave a message and we will call you back). You can also check for updates on my Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Stay safe and healthy.
Â
Sincerely,
Supervisor Ahsha SafaiÂ

Vaccine Rollout
Â
The vaccine supply coming to San Francisco’s healthcare providers and the Department of Public Health (DPH) is limited, inconsistent, and unpredictable, making vaccine roll out difficult and denying San Franciscans this potentially life-saving intervention. Â
With the opening of the City College and Moscone high volume vaccination sites, vaccines administered by healthcare providers, pharmacies, and DPH in San Francisco increased significantly to average 7,400 doses over the last seven days. At the beginning of last week, San Francisco vaccinated 31% of the 65 and older population, and ended the week at 47%, nearly at the halfway mark. The City has the capacity to administer more than 10,000 vaccines per day but lack the vaccine supply. Â
The Moscone high volume site will pause for one week and will reopen once supply is sufficient to resume operations. Moscone is being operated in partnership with Kaiser Permanente and fellow consortium members, Adventist Health, the CA Medical Association, Dignity Health, Futuro Health and the California Primary Care Association. Â
The City College high volume site expects to resume on Friday for second doses only. The third high volume site will launch this week but with available appointments far below full capacity. No existing appointments were canceled; spots are only released for booking once the vaccine supply is confirmed. Â Â
San Francisco healthcare providers, pharmacies, and DPH has to vaccinate more than 760,000 residents over the age of 16, requiring more than 1.5 million doses. As of February 13, San Francisco received 262,000 doses and administered more than 190,000 doses to San Franciscans and surrounding Bay Area residents. This is a vaccine usage rate of 72.4%. The remaining vaccine doses are set aside for scheduled first appointments and scheduled second doses. Â
You can visit the following website to see the State's prioritization plan for distributing vaccine: https://covid19.ca.gov/vaccines/#When-can-I-get-vaccinatedÂ

February COVID-19 Testing in District 11Â
The City is encouraging residents who have insurance to get tested through their medical provider, so as to take the strain off of our free testing sites. If you have health insurance, schedule a test with your doctor. If you have symptoms or known exposure, your healthcare provider is required by law to get you a test.

Prop 19 Workshop Video
On January 5, then Assessor Recorder Carmen Chu's office hosted an online workshop about the changes brought by this new law and invited financial and estate planners to join us to help answer some of the most frequently asked questions.Â
Over 2,000 people registered for the event and close to 1,000 questions were submitted, we covered as much as we could during the 90-minute event. The recording of the workshop is now available on their newly developed Proposition 19 website at SFAssessor.org/Prop19. Chinese and Spanish interpretations are also available. Feel free to share them with your family and loved ones. (98% respondents said they would recommend the event to friends and family!)
