A Message From The Supervisor:
This weekend, another strong storm is forecasted to bring heavy rain, unusually high winds and cold temperatures to the Bay Area. This week, my legislation supporting Assemblymember Phil Ting's bill (AB 2359) passed unanimously at the Board of Supervisors. AB2359 doubles the number of licenses that make it easier for up-and-coming chefs to open full-service restaurants in the Excelsior/ Outer Mission. I am thankful for Assemblymember Ting’s partnership in supporting my ongoing commitment to encourage growth and vibrancy of small businesses in the Excelsior neighborhood.
For years, I have been working with SFMTA and the community to push for much-needed traffic calming measures to District 11, specifically high-injury corridors, such as Alemany Blvd. Tragically, last week a 76—year old pedestrian died because of a hit and run at Alemany and Rousseau. These incidents are upsetting, and this one even more so as that it happened at an intersection where I have been insistent in having traffic lights installed. I have communicated to our agencies, urging them to installation of these traffic lights immediately.
Tuesday March 5th is Election Day.Â
If eligible, don’t forget to exercise your right to vote! If can drop off your ballot at any USPS office or your local polling place, which you can find HERE. If you didn’t register to vote or want to vote in-person, you can do so at your polling place or visit City Hall Voting Center. City Hall is open every day for voting, including on Election Day.

Such a pleasure to have Renard Monroe, Executive Director of Youth 1st , as the District 11 honoree as we close out this year's Black History Month at the Board of Supervisors. Renard is a fierce champion for communities of color, who has dedicated decades and so much of himself to ensure Black and Brown communities thrive in San Francisco. I am fortunate to call him a friend and am thankful for his partnership and support as we continue to fight alongside the community for equitable investments and resources.Â

What an amazing day celebrating the Lunar New Year parade. Thousands of people joined us to celebrate the year of the Wood Dragon, which brings evolution, improvement, and abundance. Thank you to the @sfchinesechamberofcommerce for an incredible event.  Â

After years of working alongside community and with our city agencies to improve street safety in my district, I was excited to be joined by community members and celebrate the installation of the new traffic light at Theresa & Alemany. It was long overdue, and we made it happen. It is one of more to come as I continue to push for increased traffic safety measures in my district and citywide.

The 2024 Superintendent's 21st Century Scholarship Awards is accepting applications from Feb. 1- March 15.

The Superintendent’s 21st Century Award will be granted to six graduating SFUSD seniors who exemplify a particular strength in one or more of the characteristics of the SFUSD Graduate Profile.
All SFUSD seniors are eligible for this award regardless of citizenship status.
Recipients of the Superintendent’s 21st Century will each receive a $2,000 scholarship, be honored at a ceremony in May and will also be featured in a video.

2024 Summer Meals and 2024-2025 Afterschool Meals Programs Application Now Open

DCYF has released the 2024 Summer Meals and 2024-2025 Afterschool Meals Program application.Â
Â
The Summer and Afterschool Meal Programs are federally-funded child nutrition programs designed to provide free meals for all children and youth ages 18 and under when school is not in session.
Â
Per USDA regulations, meal distribution sites must be located in an area where 50% or more youth qualify for free/reduced-price meals. However, determination of eligibility differs between the summer and afterschool programs. This means that some sites can qualify for one program, but not the other. Please be sure to review the 2024-2025 Nutrition Programs FAQ prior to applying to help determine whether your site will be considered eligible.Â

Please note that this application is for sites requesting meals at non-SFUSD school sites. For sites located at a SFUSD schools, please apply at this link.
Applications are due by Monday, March 18, 2024.Â

Survey of LGBTQIA+ Older Adults in California
The California Department of Aging is supporting research partners and a statewide coalition of LGBTQIA+ community-based organizations to design and launch California’s first statewide survey documenting the needs, hopes and priorities of mid-life and older LGBTQIA+ residents across the state. The study aligns with the overarching objectives of the Master Plan on Aging, seeking to inform public policy decisions in California and enhance the quality of care and services for the LGBTQ+ older adult population, taking into account regional disparities and demographic diversity.
The survey is available in English, Tagalog, Spanish and Traditional Chinese.Â

Weigh in on the SFMTA’s Proposed K Ingleside Rapid Project
As the SFMTA Board of Directors Meeting on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the SFMTA Board will hold a public hearing and voting on final approval on the K Ingleside Rapid Project.Â
SFMTA developed the proposed parking and traffic modifications and transit-improvements to section of Ocean Avenue in the Ingleside in collaboration with the Ocean Avenue community through outreach to businesses and residents, and through the SFCTA Ocean Avenue Mobility Action Plan Task Force.Â
The SFMTA meeting will held at 1:00 pm in City Hall, Room 400.Â

BLESSING SCAM ALERT:
The San Francisco Police Department urge all members of the Chinese Community to be suspicious of strangers claiming to provide relief from a curse or illness or those who provide "purification' ceremonies in which cash and valuable items must be offered as part of the process.Â
Please review this previously released video on various ways to identify potential scammers, how to protect yourself from scam, and reporting resources to scam victims.
MORE SCAM ALERTS:
The San Francisco Police Department urge all seniors and community members to be suspicious of scams involving:
-- "Roofing inspectors" who ask to gain entrance to your home, "find" bad roofs and offer extremely high rates of service to fix.
-- "Jury Duty" phone calls from scammers asking for payment of "fines" for failing to attend Jury Duty.
-- "Email Claiming to be from USPS" with links to take surveys to win cash prizes.
 Seniors are especially vulnerable to these scams. Please talk with your family members about these scams and watch our for in-person, phone and email scams. Â
