A Message From The Supervisor:
A vaccination site is coming to District 11! Thank you to Excelsior Strong, the Latino Task Force and a host of other community members for helping to activate the Norton Street Parking Lot. The parking lot is now a pop up vaccination center. On Sunday March 28, 2021, I visited the site for the soft opening. The official opening of the vaccination site will be on April 7, 2021 and the site will serve residents of District 11 who have not been able to get appointments elsewhere. The site is designed to be a low barrier and culturally competent vaccination site powered by on the ground outreach. Stay tuned to our newsletter for more information on how to register for appointments.
Please note - if you miss my weekly newsletter, you may find it later on the Board of Supervisor’s website. Click HERE to read past newsletters.

Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that vaccine eligibility will be expanded to those that are 50+ years old starting on Thursday, April 1 and to all Californians 16+ years old on Thursday, April 15! This is a huge expansion in eligibility and right in time for our District 11 vaccination site that I mentioned in my message above.
People who are eligible to be vaccinated can sign-up for an appointment as they become available at: SF.gov/getvaccinated or by visiting https://myturn.ca.gov/.

SFMTA Updates
SFPD Presence re Increase Violence and Hate Attacks
SFMTA is making every attempt to track any reports that threaten the safety of our staff and riders. They have coordinated with SFPD for an increased presence on our transit lines along the Stockton (30 Stockton & 45 Union/Stockton) and Geary (38 Geary) corridors to begin with.
Additionally, they have agreed to target any other lines with increased security related concerns. We are also focusing our Transit Fare Inspectors and our MTAP staff on impacted transit lines (1 California, 8 Bayshore, 9 San Bruno, 12 Pacific, and the L Taraval) to add additional uniformed presence.
SFMTA's MTAP management team will also be working closely with the Street Violence Intervention Program (SVIP) through the expansion of partnerships with API nonprofit organizations as noted in Mayor London Breed Announces New Efforts to Protect Public Safety and Combat Anti-Asian Violence in San Francisco. The ask has been to shape their activities to be transit-focused along the affected bus lines within the neighborhoods to which they are assigned.

Small Business Highlight - La Casa de Murcia (LCM)
As we wrap up Women's History Month, I wanted to highlight a small women owned business in District 11. La Casa de Murcia (LCM) is a San Francisco based brand dedicated to breathing new life into forgotten fabrics and prints. All fashion accessory pieces are made by hand and available as one-of-a-kind or small capsule collections. They focus on creating products that are sustainable and implement upcycling. Recently, LCM launched a home & living sector through Contrado by infusing original artwork into home decor items such as cups, saucers, journals, and more. Their products are great for people who want a splash of color in their wardrobe or home decor.
La Casa de Murcia was started by Outer Mission native, Jen Murcia, as a way to continue growing her sewing skills and as a means to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a fashion designer. The inspiration for the brand comes from her Salvadorian American roots, her admiration for strong women, and the sites and sounds she observed as a kid living in San Francisco in the 1990s and early 2000s. These influences come through in the photography and items in the shop. Click HERE to check out La Casa de Murcia!

Guaranteed Income Pilot Program for San Francisco Artists
Mayor London Breed announced the launch of a new guaranteed income pilot program for San Francisco artists. As part of San Francisco’s economic recovery and efforts to support the arts, the cash relief program will support artists living and working in the City of San Francisco who have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The City has partnered with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) to administer the program, and YBCA is now accepting applications for the pilot program.
The artist guaranteed income pilot program will provide monthly payments of $1,000 to approximately 130 eligible San Francisco artists for six months beginning May 2021. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements listed on the pilot program website, and are invited to apply online through the April 15, 2021 deadline. For this program, an artist is someone who actively engages with the community through music, dance, creative writing, visual art, performance art, installation, photography, theater, or film. Teaching artists, arts educators, and culturally-based craft workers and makers are also encouraged to apply.

Mayor London N. Breed announced this year’s Bridge to Excellence Scholarship Program is now accepting applications. Ingleside Senior Safety Advocates: On Saturday, March 27, 2021, I joined many community members from District 11 and District 7 as we passed out whistles, lights, and masks to seniors along the Ocean Avenue Commercial Corridor. The purpose of the event was to show seniors that they have other community members there to support them and to also provide access to necessary resources in case of any incidents. The event was attended by a number of District 11 Community Based Organizations including Invest Black, Youth First, Our Kids First, and OMICC. As we reopen our community, it is our office’s priority to ensure our elders are safe. |
District 11 Community Clean Up: On Saturday, March 27, 2021, we also went over to Kenny Alley Stairs to participate in a community clean up. Thank you to OMI-CPP, Excelsior Action Group, D11 Democrats, OMI Invest Black, Mission YMCA, Excelsior Collaborative and OMI Collaborative for your partnership! And thank you to Public Works for power washing the stairs after! |
