A Message From The Supervisor:
Happy Monday! I am excited to announce that starting Monday, June 7, City Hall will reopen for in-person services and general public access. This includes in-person services like applying for marriage licenses, obtaining birth and death certificates, recording documents, and registering businesses as well as payment of property and business taxes and fees. Counter services will be open for the Treasurer and Tax Collector’s Office, the Assessor’s Office, County Clerk, Office of Small Business, and other agencies. The County Clerk will begin to accept online appointments for in-person marriage ceremonies today and marriage ceremonies (no more than six guests) will resume after City Hall reopens. In the week prior, starting June 1, some City Hall
services will be open for very limited in-person services by appointment only and not open to the general public. For more details on the reopening schedules and plans for each Department, visit sf.gov/location/city-hall.
Last week during the Public Safety and Neighborhood Safety Committee meeting, I held a hearing to examine the brazen shoplifting occurring at our anchor businesses such as Walgreens, CVS, and Safeway. I was shocked to find out that much of the shoplifting is coming as a result of organized crime. San Francisco stores like Walgreens, CVS, and Target have been forced to close their doors in many locations because the City has become the epicenter for organized commercial shoplifting. During the hearing I urged our law enforcement agencies to spend more time finding lasting solutions for these crimes.Â
During our Board of Supervisors meeting last week, I introduced legislation that would grant some San Francisco firefighters and paramedics the ability to initiate 5150 holds. Often times, our paramedics are first on the scene when individuals are experiencing mental crisis but, do not currently have the authority to initiate a temporary hold without a police officer. This legislation is designed to put another tool into the toolkit of our
Street Crisis Response Team and it is also designed to allow health professionals to make decisions about the mental health of people who are experiencing a severe mental health crisis. The last thing we want to do when someone is experiencing a mental health crisis is criminalize them.
Over the weekend, I was able to spend time with the janitors of SEIU Local 87 as they ratified their contract at Oracle Park.  This moment is special because I wholeheartedly feel that the way a city treats their janitors sets the tone for how they treat the rest of their workforce. I am proud to say that San Francisco has again honored its janitors and thus recommitted to treating the rest of its workforce with dignity. I will always stand with San Francisco’s workers and working families.
I would like to continue to remind everyone that vaccines and testing are available in the District. Please find the flyers with the dates and times for vaccines and testing later in the newsletter. Also, please be aware that the testing site at Crocker Amazon Park will be moving to the Norton Street Parking Lot in upcoming weeks.
Please note - if you miss my weekly newsletter, you may find it later on the Board of Supervisor’s website. Click HERE to read past newsletters.

CDC and California Guidelines for People Who Are Fully Vaccinated
California will lift its mask mandate for fully vaccinated people June 15, the date the state is slated to reopen.
The newly announced state guidance aligns with recommendations issued last week by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — but will take effect later in California than in many other states, some of which have already lifted mask mandates. The CDC’s guidance says people who are fully vaccinated may abandon their masks in most indoor and outdoor spaces.
One of the best things you can do to protect yourself from COVID-19 and to help San Francisco recover from this pandemic is to get vaccinated as soon as possible. SF has now vaccinated 75% of people 16 and older with at least one dose.
To get vaccinated go to SF.gov/getvaccinated |

Youth Commission Applications Now Available
The Youth Commission is a body of 17 youth from San Franciscan between the ages of 12 and 23. Created by the voters under a 1995 amendment to the City Charter, the commission is responsible for advising the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor on policies and laws related to young people. The Youth Commission is also charged with providing comment and recommendation on all proposed laws that would primarily affect youth before the Board takes final action.Â
WHAT THEY DO:
Our job, which was created by the voters of San Francisco and makes us accountable to the whole City, is to stand up for the needs of all young people in the policy and legislative debates at City Hall. Whether it comes to MUNI, housing, education, juvenile justice or health and wellness, we serve as authentic advisors on youth issues to the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor. We read laws, talk to Supervisors and the Mayor Office, hold discussions with other young people in our communities, organize events and hearings, do research on policy and write resolutions.
Youth Commissioners get the chance to develop their leadership and advocacy skills! Youth commissioners receive training on legislative advocacy, community organizing, public speaking, power & oppression, social justice history, understanding City government, and the City’s budget. Being a youth commissioner is a great way to serve your community, learn about politics, and grow your leadership as a principled and effective community advocate.
APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS
The only requirements are that you live in San Francisco and are between the ages of 12 and 23 when you are appointed.
