A Message From The Supervisor:
Happy Monday. I hope that this communication finds you healthy and safe. I want to take this time to highlight a few important changes in District 11 and San Francisco's response to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases. Starting this week the Lakeview/OMI Vaccination and Testing Hub will be moving its services over to IT Bookman at 446 Randolph Street. Please note this change and more detailed information can be found in the flyer located within the newsletter. Additionally, please take note of the indoor mask mandate in place. Many of our local businesses are also requiring some additional measures to enter their establishments. As a community, let us please respect our businesses and work collaboratively to get through this surge in cases as safely as possible.
This weekend, we will celebrate the 28th Annual Pistahan parade and festival. This year, the festival will be a special virtual program on Saturday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15 from 11am – 3pm PDT with the theme: “Renew, Recover and Rise Together." The festival aims to create new experiences for discovery, connection and positivity. It is a creative response to bring Pinoy pride to audiences around the world through an online parade, world-class performances, cooking demos, tech talks, public health updates, and many more activities. I am proud to support and stand with the Filipino American community. Mabuhay!
I would like to remind everyone that the Board of Supervisors is currently on August recess. Our office remains accessible to the public through telephone, email, virtual meeting or in person via appointment. We are available by email: safaistaff@sfgov.org or by phone 415-554-6976 (leave a message and we will call you back). You can also check for updates on my Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Stay safe and healthy.
Please note - if you miss my weekly newsletter, you may find it later on the Board of Supervisor’s website. Click HERE to read past newsletters.
Sincerely,
Supervisor Ahsha Safai

Bay Area Health Officials Urge Immediate Vaccination and Issue Orders Requiring Use of Face Coverings Indoors to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19
In light of the surge in cases and increase in hospitalizations due to the highly contagious Delta variant, and also due to recent changes in CDC and CDPH recommendations around masking, the Health Officer has updated the Safer Return Together Order to add indoor universal masking requirements.
Vaccination remains the best tool and highest public health priority to stop the spread of the virus, protect the community and further economic recovery. Most of the new cases are among people who are not fully vaccinated. Also, nearly all of the hospitalizations are of patients who are unvaccinated. The Health Officer continues to strongly urge all individuals who are eligible to get fully vaccinated as soon as they can, and all businesses and governmental entities to consider implementing safety measures to require their employees to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible. But in the meantime, and to help ensure the timely reopening of schools, the Health Officer, consistent with the newly revised CDC and CDPH guidelines and in coordination with health officers from certain other Bay Area jurisdictions (including Santa Clara, Contra Costa, Alameda, Marin, Sonoma and San Mateo counties, and the City of Berkeley), has made the changes detailed here: https://www.sfdph.org/dph/alerts/files/C19-07-Safer-Return-Together-Health-Order.pdf

Rental Assistance
Right now, San Francisco has over $182 million in rental assistance available for families in need. This support is available to renters and landlords who have experienced financial hardship due to the pandemic, are at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability, and have a household income at or below 80% of area median income – which is $146,350 for a family of four in San Francisco. There is free assistance available for filling out the required forms. According to the Treasury Department over 45,000 households in California have already benefited from this assistance.
If you are behind on rent payments, you must give your landlord a signed declaration in response to a 15-day notice regarding your payments. However, for payments between September 2020 and September 2021, you must pay at least 25% of your rent within those 13 months in additional to giving your landlord the above declaration. While you cannot be evicted for unpaid rent, starting on November 1, 2021, landlords can take tenants to small claims court for unpaid rent. In response, San Francisco has partnered with Bay Area Legal Aid and other legal service organizations to help with these COVID-19 rental debt matters.
Additionally, if you are having difficulty paying rent or your mortgage, please contact Open Door Legal for more information and rapid legal consultation: https://opendoorlegal.org/vision-zero-displacement/
