As our City is coping with the effects of the novel coronavirus ("COVID-19"), I wanted to let each of you know that my office is working hard to stay up-to-date on all fronts so that you all can be informed of what is happening locally, statewide, and nationally. Legislative Update
All 4/20 Festivities In San Francisco Have Been Cancelled, People Will Be Cited For Violating The Shelter-In-Place Order: 

Today, many San Franciscans would normally gather at Golden Gate Park on Hippie Hill to celebrate 4/20 -- an unofficial holiday for cannabis aficionados -- but all public gatherings to celebrated 4/20 events have been cancelled due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). 

This past week, Mayor London N. Breed announced that amid the coronavirus pandemic, 4/20 celebrations in Golden Gate Park and all other public locations across the city are cancelled. To enforce the shelter-in-place order, there is heightened enforcement and barricades in place to deter gatherings of any size. 


Please celebrate responsibly and, to help us flatten the curve, please celebrate at home. Thank you, from the District 11 office. 


 


IMPORTANT: Longfellow Elementary School Now Operating As An Additional Food Distribution Site In District 11: 

The District 11 office is happy to announce that Longfellow Elementary School will be operating as an additional food distribution site for children on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11AM to 12PM. Supervisor Safai worked with the San Francisco Unified School District ("S.F.U.S.D.") to open this additional site. No child should go hungry. 

Where: Longfellow Elementary School (755 Morse Street)


When: Every Monday and Wednesday


Time: 11AM to 12PM

We would like to thank Pastor Mike Allen from Calvary Baptist Church of San Francisco for working with the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ("SPCA") for a very large donation of pet supplies to the Safe Parking Program. Enough was provided to not only assist District 11 residents and their furry companions but also to share with other navigation centers.

Face Coverings Are Now Required For All San Franciscans While Out-And-About In The City: 

On Friday, April 17, 2020, Mayor London N. Breed announced that people now out on the streets of San Francisco must wear a face covering as part of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions for our corresponding shelter-in-place order. Further, all who are working on-site and not at home must also wear a mask or some type covering. 


Note, this new directive to always wear a face-covering while out in public or at work does not take the place of social distancing. Social distancing is also still in effect and people should still practice at least six-feet of distancing from the nearest person to them. Thank you.

 
IMPORTANT: San Francisco Releases Map Of Coronavirus Impact By Zip Code:


Today, Mayor London N. Breed and Director of Health Dr. Grant Colfax released a new map that tracks and displays confirmed, positive cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in San Francisco by zip code. 


As of today (April 20, 2020), there are 1,216 confirmed cases (for a population of over 800,000) and 20 deaths. 


For District 11, zip code 941102, there are 134 confirmed cases.


Latinx comprise just for 15% of San Francisco's population yet account for 25% of the overall confirmed cases. What we are seeing in San Francisco is unfortunately what we are seeing nationwide, individuals who are systemically ostracized, discriminated against, and with fewer resources are of higher risk. The District 11 office is working with all stakeholders to ensure that our minority communities are not being left out, there are hurdles around culture, language, access to resources and technology, and much more.

MUNI-RELATED UPDATE: 


As we grapple with this crisis, the District 11 office is working hard to best support our communities. A big concern is the elimination of many critical routes in our district including the M and 54 lines. These routes are lifelines for seniors and families to have access to other essential services like grocers, bart, pharmacies and more. Supervisor Safai has had numerous conversations with SFMTA leadership and staff and is committed to doing all he can to make sure these lines are restored as quickly as possible. The SFMTA has assured Supervisor Safai that as more operators return to work, service to critical lines like the M and 54 will be restored. Thank you, all, for your patience as we navigate these changes.

 

California Governor Gavin Newsom Announces The Creation Of The (80-Member) Business And Jobs Recovery Task Force: 

On Friday, April 17, 2020, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the creation of the Business and Jobs Recovery Task Force ("Task Force"). The Task Force is comprised of eighty (80) individuals from a range of fields and will be co-chaired by the Governor Newsom's Chief of Staff Ann O'Leary and Tom Steyer. 

The Task Force members will meet twice a month for as long as necessary and in response to COVID-19.

To Volunteer: City of San Francisco & Shanti Project's COVID-19 Emergency Response Volunteer (CERV) Program: 

The Emergency Response Volunteer Program was created in partnership between the City of San Francisco's Department of Disability and Aging Services (DAS) and Shanti Project. 


Examples of Support: 
  • Grocery shopping
  • Dog Walking
  • Delivery of pet food, medication, and other essentials
  • Mail pickup


Volunteer Requirements: 
  • Volunteers must be in good health and under the age of 60
  • Volunteers are required to pass a background check
  • Volunteers are required to follow San Francisco Coronavirus protocol
