Happy May Day

There’s no parade, marching band on the stands or confetti being thrown. There are no history books teaching our children the value of UNIONS in this country in our schools.

For Working families May Day is NOT commemorated on only one day of the year—it’s everyday. If this pandemic has taught us anything is that FRONTLINE WORKERS EVERYWHERE are under attack. That the federal government should NOT run to bail out undeserving corporations that with one hand beg for a bail out and with the other don’t hesitate to strip workers of their rights and protections.

Today on International Workers Day let us ALL thank workers that have put themselves in harms way to ensure that everyone is taken care of. Theres never been a more important or critical time like now to #jointheunion. Thank you healthcare workers, delivery drivers, janitors, teachers, fire fighters, police officers, super market workers, drug store clerks, restaurant workers, laborers, construction workers and all our amazing city and non profits employees, food bank volunteers and so many more.

We can’t march but we can’t forget. This memory is from 4 years ago on May Day with Mayor Lee, Supervisors Jane Kim, and Katy Tang and so many others that marched for workers rights that day.

This week I had the opportunity to distribute 300 masks to community members at June Jordan during their Wednesday food distribution.

It is apparent the need for food in our community and I am so grateful for the SFUSD staff members who serve our families every Monday and Wednesday. Thank you to the community members who have reached out to our office each week to ensure we have enough food to feed our families.

Return of the M Line starting Monday, May 4th

Due to the advocacy from our office and many community leaders, SFMTA will return a portion of the M Line via bus starting this upcoming Monday.

Beginning Monday, May 4th the M line will return as a bus from Balboa Park to West Portal. This line will ensure that transportation to the OMI is not cut off and that community members can reach essential services outside the neighborhood.

The frequency will be as follows:
5 days per week
6 am - 9 pm
20 min frequency

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.

This is an incredibly difficult time for our city, and many of us are experiencing significant uncertainty, anxiety, and fear. Below is a list of resources that provide useful strategies and support to help maintain and improve our mental health.

I would like to thank my colleagues, Supervisors Catherine Stefani and Hillary Ronen, for compiling these resources.

The City and County Of San Francisco Has CLOSED McLaren Park's Shelly Drive and Golden Gate Park's JFK Drive Starting Tuesday, April 28, 2020, At 6:00 A.M. For As Long As The Shelter-In-Place Order Is In Place:

On Monday, April 27, 2020, Mayor London N. Breed announced that beginning Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at 6:00 a.m., a portion of John F. Kennedy Drive -- from Kezar Drive to Transverse Drive -- in Golden Gate Park and John F. Shelley Drive in John McLaren Park will be closed to vehicles 24 hours per day throughout the duration of San Francisco's Stay Home Order.

Why?
The street closures are intended to ensure there is enough space for people who choose to exercise in Golden Gate Park McLaren Park to maintain required physical distancing.

Please note, while the street closures are intended to increase space for people to get outside all park users must still practice social distancing and people over 60 years of age and/or those with underlying health conditions or who are sick are encouraged to not leave their homes.
