Mayor Breed Delays Plan to Reopen More Businesses Due to Surge in New COVID-19 Cases
 

Mayor London Breed today announced that San Francisco is experiencing a concerning increase in local COVID-19 cases, and as a result will be temporarily delaying the reopening of certain businesses and activities scheduled to be allowed to resume on Monday, June 29th. These include: hair salons and barber shops, nail salons, tattoo salons, museums, zoos, outdoor bars, and outdoor swimming. There is no change to businesses and activities currently allowed under prior reopening phases.

“Our reopening process is guided by data and science. COVID-19 cases are rising throughout California and we're now seeing a rise in cases in San Francisco too. Our numbers are still low but they’re rising rapidly. While I know this pause is disappointing to residents and businesses owners, we need to temporarily delay the re-openings that were scheduled for Monday.

Yesterday we saw 103 new cases. On June 15th, when we first reopened outdoor dining and in-store retail, we had 20 new cases. At our current rate, the number could double rapidly. If that continues and we do not intervene, we will be at such a high number that our only option would be to shut down.

It is important to follow protective health measures and utilize the tools we already have. Everyone needs to wear face coverings, maintain social distance, and practice good hygiene.

 



July 4th - Operation Kaboom: Knocking Out Illegal Fireworks in the Ingleside


Reporting the "sound" of fireworks to 911 or the non-emergency line (415) 553-0123 clogs our system, which hinders a rapid response to emergencies as well as identified locations where illegal fireworks are being launched.

Operation Kaboom attempts to free important dispatch lines while triaging and prioritizing actionable information regarding the scourge of illegal fireworks.

Californians Must Now Always Wear A Face Mask At All Times When Not Inside The Privacy Of Their Home Unless Explicitly Exempted From Having To Do So

This past week, California Governor Gavin Newsom, along with the California Department of Public Health, issued California's "Guidance For The Use Of Face Coverings" (henceforth, the "Guide") and, in so doing, made it mandatory for all Californians to wear face mask outside of the comfort of their home. Details below. 

The Guide notes that people in California must wear face coverings in the high-risk situations listed below: 

1) Inside of, or in line to enter, any indoor public space.

2) Obtaining services from the healthcare sector in settings including, but not limited to, a hospital, pharmacy, medical clinic, laboratory, physician or dental office, veterinary clinic, or blood bank.

3) Waiting for or riding on public transportation or paratransit or while in a taxi, private car service, or ride-sharing vehicle.

4) Engaged in work, whether at the workplace or performing work off-site.
