California Governor Newsom Announced Action To Close Bars In Certain Counties
As of today, June 29, 2020, California has 216,550 confirmed cases of COVID-19, resulting in 5,936 deaths. The rate of positive tests over the last 14 days is 5.5 percent. There were 5,307 new confirmed cases this Sunday (June 28). Who is getting infected with COVID-19 across California? The distribution of confirmed COVID-19 cases highlights and amplifies disparities within California, it is Latinx and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander groups who account for a disproportionate share of cases relative to their share of the population.
Yesterday, Sunday, June 28, 2020, the California Department of Public Health (henceforth, the “Department”) and California Governor Gavin Newsom also released guidance on the closure of bars for counties on the County Monitoring list, counties which have been on the list for 14 days or more were required to immediately close bars. Those impacted counties, for your convenience, were the following:
Mandatory Bar Closure:
• Fresno
• Kern
• Kings
• Los Angeles
• Tulare
Recommended Bar Closure:
• Riverside
• Sacramento
• San Bernardino
• Santa Barbara
• Stanislaus
• Ventura

Lastly, today (June 29) during his COVID-19 update, California Governor Newsom did note that the state will be stepping up enforcement and that the $2.2-million dollars earmarked in COVID-19 funds and its disbursement would be predicated upon the success of counties' enforcement. In short, our positivity rate these last seven (7) days increased to 5.9% (the previous seven days the positivity had increased from 4.4% to 5.5%), and four new counties were added to the State's watchlist, including Orange County. Please be safe.

The Reopenings Slated For Today (June 29, 2020) Have Been Temporarily Halted Until Further Notice
This past Thursday (June 25), Mayor London Breed announced that the reopenings slated for this Monday (June 29) were on hold because of the new 103 COVID-19 cases that were reported that same day, for reference, prior to this past Thursday San Francisco had a rolling 7-day average of 25-35 new cases.
The temporary halt impacts the following businesses: hair salons, nail salons, barbershops, tattoo studios, zoos, museums, outdoor swimming pools, and bars that serve drinks outdoors. Previously, hair salons were set to open until July 13 and the other business till mid-August, however this past Friday it was announced that the next wave of reopenings will be contingent on a review of ongoing data by San Francisco’s Department of Public Health.
We understand that this hampers the plans of many in San Francisco, the District 11 office appreciates everyone’s patience. Please stay safe, wear a face covering, and practice social distancing! It’s for your health.

Walk and Wave Wednesday In District 11
The District 11 office was informed by a group of constituents that every Wednesday at noon they meet at 1532 Cayuga (ask for Ms. Mary, the owner) and then head out as a group, by foot, to Alemany while holding homemade signs with friendly and community oriented messages (a simple, "hi" or "hello") and waving to those simply passing by or driving by.
This weekly activity is meant to encourage morale in a time of imposed isolation and to also provide space for people to socialize safely. Note, to participate you MUST have a face mask on and you must also comply with social distancing, and please remember to bring your own sign! Enjoy!
