REGISTRATION FOR DCYF LEARNING HUBS WILL OPEN ON MONDAY, AUGUST 24.

DCYF and the SF Recreation and Parks Department, in partnership with community-based agencies and other City departments, are planning the implementation of Community Learning Hubs, a Citywide, neighborhood-based strategy to support children, youth, and families during the school year. The Hubs will provide support for students who are utilizing SFUSD’s Distance Learning Curriculum, and will prioritize children and youth with the highest need.

The City will utilize a focused enrollment model for the Community Learning Hubs in order to serve children who have the absolute highest level of needs. The first wave of focused outreach will only be open to the following groups: HOPE SF, public housing and SRO residents; homeless youth; foster care youth; English language learners; and low-income families that are African American, Latinx, Pacific Islander and Asian.

Higher enrollment priority will be given to applicants who are multi-system involved, who indicate they have no internet access, and who do not have digital learning devices.

For more information, and to stay informed about community learning hubs, please fill out an interest form here:

Graffiti Wipeout 2020 on August 29th

I am excited to announce the return of our #LoveOurCity volunteer community workdays and I’m hoping you can help get the word out about this upcoming event.  Leveraging our partnerships with community members and organizations, our #LoveOurCity events help improve San Francisco’s shared public spaces. Our comeback event: Graffiti Wipeout 2020 is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. I hope you can join in! It’s a great opportunity to volunteer with colleagues and community members. COVID safety protocols will be in place.

Here’s the plan: We’re focusing our attention on seven sites (including the OMI) to abate graffiti tags. See locations below. Signing up is easy. Just go to our website and register.

If you can’t join us at one of the organized volunteer work sites, we encourage you to remove graffiti near your home. Public Works has a long and proud history of partnering with our diverse communities. Let’s keep the tradition going.

At the organized work sites, we’ll provide volunteers with paint, brushes, scrapers, disposable gloves and other graffiti-busting tools and supplies. If you need supplies, contact sf311. Our Community Programs staff will get in touch with you to confirm your order and arrange a pickup day and time at the Operations Yard.

As you may know, Public Works had to put our community volunteer events on hold beginning in March due to the COVID public health crisis. We’re ready to roll once again – with COVID precautions in place:

  • Face coverings and gloves will be mandatory at all events. Please bring your own face covering; we’ll provide disposable gloves.
  • Participants must adhere to social distancing guidelines: keep at least 6 feet apart unless you’re working with a member of your household.
  • Groups working in a particular area will be kept to a maximum of 12 people.
  • Anyone experiencing COVID symptoms is asked to stay home.

Organized volunteer work sites:

Location 1: Broadway Tunnel and surrounding areas and street furniture along Polk Street.

Location 2: Wall at Fifth and Bryant streets, near the freeway on-ramp. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old.

Location 3: Fillmore Street between Pine and Lombard streets.

Location 4: Mission Street, between 16th and 24th streets.

Location 5: San Bruno overpass and Bayshore tunnel wall at San Bruno and Paul streets.

Location 6: Underpass at Alemany and Crystal streets. This location also offers volunteers the option to do litter pickup.

Location 7: Fences along the 4000 Block of 19th Avenue and the 1100 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard.

If you have questions, email our Community Programs staff at volunteer@sfdpw.org.

I’m looking forward to Graffiti Wipeout 2020 and I hope to see you there!
