Stricter Local Laws for Car Sideshow Legislative Request Made by Supervisor Safai:

Supervisor Safai has instructed the City Attorney's Office to begin drafting legislation that will give our police officers more authority to go after all who participate in car sideshows on our public streets, the request is first and foremost prompted by a concern for the public's safety and those participating in these illegal activities. The goal is to enable the San Francisco Police Department ("SFPD") to declare these car sideshows as a public nuisance and/or reckless driving which, in turn, would then allow for police officers to not only seize any vehicles implicated in these illegal car shows and races but also implement harsher penalties.

Supervisor Safai Makes Legislative Request That Would Implement Term Limits on Members of San Francisco's Commissions and Committees:

This past month, Supervisor Safai asked the City Attorney's Office to craft legislation that would implement a cap on the total number of years a person can sit on any one particular City commission, i.e., impose term limits. Note, the legislation would not preclude any one person from sitting on more than one commission or committee, rather, it would only limit the number of years a person can sit on a specific, particular committee or commission.

Supervisor Safai made this request in an effort to ensure that more San Franciscans have an opportunity to civically engaged with our local, representative bodies and to also prevent any one person from commandeering or inappropriately influencing any one commission or committee.

Supervisor Safai was called to stand in solidarity with the hardworking women and men of Teamsters Local 6665 during their one-day strike against against Bauer's Intelligent Transportation ("Bauer's"). The one-day strike was triggered after Bauer's management failed to sign a new contract and also hired non-union drivers for their shuttles, Supervisor Safai and the District 11 office do not support union-busting techniques and quickly joined our working women and men on the picket line. Our working families are the backbone of San Francisco and are what make this City the great place that it is, Supervisor Safai will continue to stand with working families.
