Yesterday, Board President Aaron Peskin, my colleagues, and I adjourned our San Francisco Board of Supervisors meeting in honor and memory of United States Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Today in City Hall, I paid my respects to her.
Senator Dianne Feinstein paved the way for women in San Francisco and beyond. She rose to lead in the face of crisis, and led our city through great loss and tremendous recovery. She fought to preserve San Francisco as a sanctuary city, protecting all regardless of immigration status. She stood up against the gun lobby and secured the first ever ban on assault rifles, and continued the fight to protect our children.
She leaves behind a legacy in her daughter, former Superior Court Judge and San Francisco Fire Commission President, Katherine Feinstein. My heart and prayers are with Commission President Feinstein, her family, and loved ones. I know that I, as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, along with many other policy makers across California, will work hard to live up to Senator Feinstein’s commitment to public service.
Tomorrow, I will join Vice President Kamala Harris, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, Mayor London Breed, Board President Aaron Peskin, and other elected and city leaders to bid farewell to Senator Feinstein at the steps of City Hall. This ceremony is open to the public, but will be first come first serve. If you are unable to join in person, you can watch the event online at www.SFGOVTV.org. Following the ceremony, there will be a private reception in her honor.
We will take this moment together as a City to remember the remarkable history Senator Feinstein made and will continue to honor her by working together to build a better future for San Francisco, a city that we all love so much.
