I have heard concerns about public safety in the Richmond, including anxieties about hate attacks on our AAPI neighbors, burglaries and vandalism damaging our small businesses, and car break-ins and burglaries happening in our neighborhoods. I want our communities to know that I have been in close communication with Captain Gaetano Caltagirone of the Richmond District Police Station frequently since I took office, and have been working closely with him to keep Richmond safe. We know that we are stronger and better to serve our community when we work together.
I know that when one of us does not feel safe, none of us can feel safe. I will continue my work with Captain Caltagirone and the Richmond District Police Station to make sure we do everything we can to serve and protect the Richmond. I am also working with the District Attorney's neighborhood liaison to make sure arrests made in the Richmond will be prosecuted and followed up accordingly.
I urge our community to join Captain Caltagirone's virtual community meeting scheduled for December 28th to discuss your concerns and sign up for his monthly e-newsletter to get crime updates and safety tips. As a former public safety community organizer from San Francisco SAFE, I also want to alert you that SF SAFE is a great public safety resource with many safety tips that our community can use.
Meanwhile, I look forward to hearing from you directly, so please contact ChanStaff@sfgov.org and schedule to meet me during my virtual or in-person office hours.
See you around in the Richmond, and have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving.
