Happy holidays, everyone! I hope everyone is having a safe and happy holiday season. As a reminder, my team and I will be out of the office during the legislative recess, from December 20 - January 3. You can still reach us at ChanStaff@sfgov.org or call (415) 554-7410, but please expect a delay in response. I will be resuming office hours in January. To schedule a meeting time, please email ChanStaff@sfgov.org. I hope you have a safe and happy holiday season!
COVID-19 Updates + Response
Protect Yourself Against Omicron
The Omicron variant is the unwelcome guest at holiday gatherings this year, and as such, it is important that we all stay vigilant and protect each other as we enjoy much-needed reunions with family and friends. The latest information regarding holiday operation hours in SF can be found here for community testing sites and here for community vaccination and booster sites. Here is our guidance on how to slow the spread of COVID-19 during this time of the year.
San Francisco has vaccination sites open for COVID-19, and many also vaccinate for the flu! COVID-19 vaccines are now available for children ages 5-11.
To find additional vaccination locations throughout San Francisco, updated hours of operation, and to schedule an appointment, visit sf.gov/getvaccinated or call 628-652-2700.
Around the City
Celebrating the Richmond
Thank you Shop & Dine in the 49 for celebrating our amazing merchants and encouraging neighbors to shop local. And thank you to the Clement Street Merchants Association for organizing another wonderful and successful ClemenTime — complete with snow, strolls, music and carols — to bring together the neighborhood!
Thank you everyone who donated a toy to the Richmond District Neighborhood Center's toy drive! What is your #OneRichmond thing to support and get involved with the community this season?
Supervisor Mar and I celebrated our favorite neighborhood publications, the Richmond Review and Sunset Beacon.
Thank you to Friends of the Urban Forest for providing our neighbors at 7th and Cabrillo with a new sidewalk garden! Our office provided Friends of the Urban Forest funding for this sidewalk garden and other tree planting efforts in our last budget cycle. Sidewalk gardens beautify neighborhoods, build community, create pollinator habitat, reduce storm-water runoff and, when planted around street trees, they increase the lifespan of the trees. Improve your block and meet your neighbors by installing a sidewalk garden with Friends of the Urban Forest!
Around San Francisco
This month I toured Zuckerberg San Francisco General with the University of California, San Francisco to learn more about their major programs, and how UCSF partners with the City to deliver patient care at our City’s essential safety-net hospital serving residents throughout the city. My deepest appreciation goes to our frontline essential healthcare workers, especially during this time.
Speaking of essential workers, I joined SFO concession workers on the picket line, who are fighting for health care. With Omicron cases on the rise, our airport workers need health care more than ever.
I also visited Treasure Island to tour their development sites and upcoming projects.
And it was an honor to speak at the second annual Chinatown Winter Wonderland!
Community Events & Updates
Richmond Station Community Meeting
In partnership with SFPD, SF SAFE hosts regularly coordinated community meetings that are co-hosted alongside our Richmond District Station, Captain Gaetano Caltagirone. Community meetings provide an opportunity for residents to hear the latest updates from their local SFPD station, communicate community concerns, and participate in shaping the public safety strategy for their area.
The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office invites you to register your security camera through its new program. The goal of the program is to deter crime and promote public safety through collaboration between the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office and the community.
The San Francisco Veterans Affairs Hospital Farmer’s Market has moved back to its original location outside of Building 1 (see campus map below). The market was temporarily relocated due to construction affecting the original location. While construction is no longer affecting the location of the original market, it is still active in areas surrounding it. The VA urges any market attendees to be cautious when in attendance.
Slow Lake Street Survey
This week, SFMTA moved into the design feedback phase with their Lake Street online open house, associated virtual meetings, as well as a survey to gather feedback on various design options. When the SFMTA Board authorized Lake Street as one of the first four post-pandemic Slow Streets in August, that represented the beginning of a process that SFMTA is now in the midst of.
The current survey is part of this design process — it's an opportunity to weigh in on potential options for the corridor. The Slow Streets team went through the same process to arrive at the designs for the post-pandemic Slow Streets that have been fully implemented so far (Sanchez and Shotwell).

The Ocean Beach Climate Change Adaptation Project is proposed to improve the portion of Ocean Beach from Sloat Boulevard to Fort Funston known as “South Ocean Beach.” The project would address shoreline erosion, severe coastal storm and wave hazards, and sea-level rise which threaten city infrastructure, coastal access and recreational facilities, and public safety.
The project is a collaborative, multi-agency initiative involving the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), San Francisco Recreation and Parks, San Francisco Public Works, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), the Federal Highway Administration, and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, a unit of the National Park Service. The city is also coordinating with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) on the potential for beneficially using Corps dredged sand for the project’s beach nourishment program.
The Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Ocean Beach Climate Change Adaptation Project is now available at tinyurl.com/OceanBeachEIR.
