I am excited to share some updates and opportunities to improve the quality of life in our district. I also share updates and resources on a more frequent basis on my Instagram account, so please check it out @chyannechensf.
In the past month I:
Worked with the Mayor’s Office, Budget Chair, and departments to advocate for prioritizing and safeguarding District 11 budget investments
Honored two incredible District 11 leaders, Yolanda Cruz and Elaine Villasper, during Women’s History Month
Attended a study tour of New York City transportation innovations
Helped facilitate Blessing Scam workshops at IT Bookman Center and Geneva Center with District 11 seniors
Supported small business strategies along our commercial corridors and at community events such as Boba Festival on Ocean Avenue and Chun Sheng Tang Herbs Co. on Geneva Avenue.
Worked with SF Planning to build strong tenant protections when demolitions and major projects displace tenants
Sponsored a Board resolution around an affordable housing sites strategy to ensure meaningful and proactive progress towards our citywide affordable housing goals
Made strong connections with our rich network of District 11 community-based organizations and neighborhood associations

🛣️ Our Public Safety Liaison has been working with various agencies and departments to address issues including houseless people in need of resources, highway infrastructure, and local municipal services. Please continue to reach out to our office about public safety and neighborhood issues, so that we can work with city departments on these issues.
💡Let There Be Light! SF Recreation and Parks Department replaced the pathway solar lights around Balboa Park’s tennis courts and at the restrooms in the children’s playground, so park goers can safely navigate the park in the evening. Thank you to the many neighbors who worked with our office and Recreation and Parks to report the maintenance issue.
🌳Additional fencing at Justin Dr. and Alemany Blvd. has been ordered to reinforce the fences along Highway 280, and roadside brushes will be cleared along the northbound Alemany onramp to improve visibility lines for drivers, thanks to the work of our Public Safety Liaison and Caltrans’s coordination.
🧹🗑️ At the March 27 Clean Corridors Event, Public Works crews did an intensive cleaning blitz on Mission St (from Geneva to Sickles). DPW deployed teams to power wash, remove litter, abate graffiti, and clean the streets, sidewalks, and public furniture along key commercial corridors.
🚌 SFMTA will be in District 11 to implement the 3rd phase of the Flag Stop Program to improve wheelchair accessibility, pedestrian safety as well as increase transit reliability with better service at bus stops! SF has 3,500 Muni stops, approximately 1,200 of which are called "flag stops," because they lack sufficient space for buses to pull up to the curb to allow riders to board. Instead, riders often must walk in between parked cars to get on and off the bus. When converting a flag stop, the SFMTA paints a 20-foot red curb 'clear zone' for better bus access, roughly the size of one parking spot. Parking notices are posted in advance and removed after the curb is painted red.
