🌳 In order to address SF Parks Alliance’s mismanagement of millions of dollars, one of the ways that the Board of Supervisors is holding Parks Alliance accountable is by subpoenaing some of the former Parks Alliance leaders
to appear at a Government Audit and Oversight Committee hearing to provide answers and testify. The meeting took place recently on July 17, at 10AM in City Hall. Here is the meeting agenda. Meeting minutes and video footage will be posted here.
District 11’s Public Safety Liaison worked with Caltrans to clear the brush on I-280 highway’s on-ramp at Ocean Avenue behind Balboa Park, and worked with the Department of Public Works to clear brushes on Still Street parallel to the highway. While not completely eliminating the plant growth, these efforts help improve driver visibility and reduce some health and fire hazards to maintain public health and public safety.
🧹 🧼 DPW (Department of Public Works) conducts weekly special cleaning operations in various commercial corridors throughout SF. Known as CleanCorridorsSF, DPW street cleaners crews go to a commercial district to power wash, sweep sidewalk, flush down roadway, and wipe out graffiti. The latest CleanCorridorsSF operation in D11 was on July 17, on Mission from Geneva to Silver and on Excelsior from Mission to Paris. Here are their upcoming D11 operations’ dates and locations:
9/18/2025 on Broad from Plymouth to Orizaba and on Randolph from Orizaba to 19th
11/6/2025 on Geneva from Naples to Mission and on Mission from Geneva to Silver
🚦The SF County Transportation Authority's (SFCTA) Brotherhood Way Safety and Circulation Plan
will develop near- and long-term alternatives to improve safety, circulation, and connectivity for people driving, walking, and rolling through the Brotherhood Way and Alemany Boulevard corridors as well as on surrounding streets. Please complete their online survey, available in English, Spanish (Español), and Chinese (中文), to provide feedback. More information about the plan are available in several languages: English , Chinese (中文) , and Spanish (Español)
🤝 The City has a new model of interagency street teams focused on geographic neighborhoods to ensure residents facing high-acuity behavioral health challenges or chronic homelessness get on the path toward long-term stability with housing and connection to loved ones. The new street teams have members from across seven departments — Police, Fire, Sheriff, Public Works, Public Health, Homelessness and Supportive Housing, and Emergency Management — to strategically manage resources, coordinate operations, and respond swiftly to conditions on the street while working to
identify and prevent larger-scale displacement and public safety concerns.
The reimagined street teams will serve as five tightly knit neighborhood units, with an additional citywide unit, where each team is led by a Department of Emergency Management (DEM) personnel to ensure communication between city agencies and create clarity for neighborhood stakeholders like business owners and residents.
📱 Find out more about when to call 911 versus 311 to report negative or dangerous street behavior here, and learn more about this new street teams model here.
💡 Local neighborhood beautification projects finally have a simpler and more affordable permit process! Love Our Neighborhoods
is the new process from San Francisco Public Works that is more user-friendly for community members to apply for permits costing as little as $0 and implement efforts to improve and beautify shared public spaces together. From small scale projects like little libraries and planters to large scale projects such as tiled staircases, District 11 is full of people who are proud of our neighborhoods and have creative ideas to enhance and enrich our environment. For more details, see the Public Works order here.

🥵 Stay safe this summer and fall as the potential for extreme heat and wildfire smoke hazards increase. Learn about the steps you can take to prepare yourself and your family for extreme heat and a range of other hazards atSF.gov/ReadySF. A map of all cooling centers, public pools, and public water fountains in San Francisco with links to operating hours is available atwww.sf.gov/heat.
💭 How does the City respond during an extreme heat event?
The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management and Department of Public Health consistently monitor National Weather Service forecasts and coordinate a citywide response when forecasts show extended heat events. This coordination includes activating the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), initiating public messaging through the Joint Information Center (JIC) to highlight resources including cooling centers and public pools, and implementing additional life safety protocols across departments as necessary.
💭 How is the City preparing for a hotter and smokier future?
The Heat and Air Quality Resilience (HAQR) Project coordinates between City government, non-profits, and universities to increase San Francisco’s resilience to extreme heat and wildfire smoke with a focus on communities that face the greatest health burdens. Some efforts to support seasonal emergency response include tree planting and urban greening, especially in southeastern neighborhoods, upgrading HVAC in City facilities, especially community health facilities, connecting community-based organizations to equipment and services, and supporting home electrification and heat pumps that provide heating and cooling.
🚴🏽 Bicis Del Pueblo, a community-based bike project that promotes environmental justice and transportation equity particularly within low-income communities of color, hosts weekly shop nights at their Balboa Park and Mission District locations.
Do you have a bicycle that needs some TLC? The team offers guided hands-on support to do repairs and maintenance
Do you need a bicycle? You can earn one by participating in two hands-on workshops to learn about how a bike works and how to ride safely in the city
Twice a month community bike rides are announced via instagram
📰 The Cayuga Neighborhood Improvement Association (CNIA) has been promoting civic engagement to improve the neighborhood’s general welfare since its founding in 1939! CNIA works to improve our local parks and streets, prevent crime, and connect neighbors with each other through various programs and events. They publish a quarterly newsletter with news and resources for the community. Check out their Spring 2025 newsletter available here, where pages 10-12 feature a column by Chris Dillon, the District 11 representative on the Disability and Aging Services Advisory Council, on the Aging and Disability Resource Center on 5050 Mission Street.
🚒 There is a new upgraded training campus for firefighters and emergency medical technicians to meet the evolving needs of emergency responders. Therefore, the San Francisco Arts Commission invites artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for the SF Fire Department Division of Training Public Art Project, located on Carroll Avenue between Ingalls Street and Giants Drive in the Hunters Point/Bret Harte neighborhoods.
🖼️ The goals are to create artwork that:
Connects viewers to the facility’s functions and reflects the mission of the Fire Department, its history, and commitment to service
Helps integrate the facility into the neighborhood with meaningful connections to the community
Will be made of durable and maintainable materials such as tile, concrete, bronze, stone, and/or other medium suitable for an exterior location along a publicly accessible, pedestrian right-of-way (public sidewalk)
Will preserve pedestrian access and sightlines into the facility
Last November, voters approved Proposition E, creating the Commission Streamlining Task Force
. The Task Force is responsible for reviewing the City’s many appointive boards and commissions and making recommendations to the Mayor and Board of Supervisors on how to modify, eliminate, or consolidate them for more effective, efficient, and economical governance.
The Task Force meets every first and third Wednesday at 1 PM in City Hall room 408 to discuss potential improvements to the structure of City government. Join the mailing list or share feedback by emailing commissionstreamlining@sfgov.org.
