We are appalled, angered, and heartbroken by shootings in Georgia that targeted the Asian-American community and left 8 people dead, 6 of which were Asian-American women. Hate crimes and violence against the AAPI community have continued to escalate...But this is not an injustice happening elsewhere - here in the Bay Area we have seen a significant increase in incidents and crimes targeting the AAPI community, particularly elders and women, with more than 800 incidents in the last year according to Chinese for Affirmative Action.
We are calling for unity and action to condem and combat the xenophobic narrative against the AAPI community that the Trump administration fueled early in the pandemic.
Last week, we passed two important milestones: We passed the one year mark of the shelter in place order, and we passed the 100,000 vaccine doses administered in San Francisco. This week, we expect to move into the second least restrictive orange tier and we can see a hopeful light at the end of this long tunnel.Â

District 7 staff have been working with the Department of Children, Youth & Their Families and stakeholders on the SF Rise initiative put forward by Supervisor Hillary Ronen and myself. The initiative is a groundbreaking expansion of the community school model which will make a significant investment in the support of youth and families will need when our public schools reopen. I am continuing to work with my colleagues towards supporting a full reopening of our public schools 5 full days a week by this fall, and investing in one of the most important part of our recovery: our youth.
On Feb 24th, Supervisor Melgar and staff toured four Community Hub sites in the district. The Community Hubs Initiative provides space and in-person assistance with distance learning to children and youth with high levels of need. The program is organized by the city’s Dept of Children, Youth and Their Families https://www.dcyf.org/care

COVID-19 UPDATES
Â
Vaccine Updates - San Francisco is currently vaccinating: 1) frontline healthcare workers; 2) those 65 years and older; and 3) those with certain health conditionsÂ
Â
Beginning March 15, vaccination will be made available to those with certain health conditions, disabilities, illness, living spaces, or work environments that put them at higher risk for serious COVID-19 illness. Read the full press release here.
Â
Individuals with these conditions are strongly encouraged to seek vaccination with a primary health care provider or system, or in an alternate clinical setting. Additionally, you can find sites and make appointment at: https://myturn.ca.gov/ All three vaccine brands are safe and equally effective. You should choose whichever vaccine is available.
Â
Are you Homebound? Call the CICT Call Center: 628-652-2700 or write to CovidVax@SFDPH.org. The full process can take about two weeks before a nurse is able to come out to your home and they are currently doing around 10 shots a day.
