Good news! 75 percent of residents age 16 or older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. And the FDA approved the vaccine for ages 12 and up, though appointments are not available yet. San Francisco County is at the top of the state in vaccine distribution.
With more than a year of hardship, isolation and worry behind us, San Francisco prepares for our Spring Awakening in 2021. As District 7 Supervisor, I couldn’t be more delighted to re-emerge and assist in the city’s recovery. After I update you on what I have been up to in this newsletter, you will learn about several programs that have been announced to help struggling businesses, landlords and tenants stabilize.

ECONOMIC RECOVERY PROGRAMS
Four city grant programs for those most impacted by Stay at Home Orders and unemployment.
1 - COMMUNITY GRANT INITIATIVES
District 7 Community Grants Initiative 2021 Proposal Application
Participatory Budgeting (PB) is a democratic process in which community members propose projects and collectively decide how to spend part of a public budget. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing efforts to recover and reopen our city, we are unable to engage in the traditional PB process during this budget cycle.
This year, in our commitment to honor the intent of PB and remain responsive to community needs and interest, we are launching a one-time Community Grants Initiative to support ongoing recovery and resiliency efforts under previous or existing PB projects that have successfully been through the community vetting process.
Applications for the federal Restaurant Revitalization Fund opened May 3, thanks to funding from the American Rescue Plan. Assistance is available to San Francisco restaurants who need help applying
3 - SHUTTERED VENUES AND SMALL BUSINESS STOREFRONT GRANTS
Applications closed May 7
San Francisco is giving $10.9 million to small San Francisco businesses most impacted by the Stay at Home orders who have been excluded from state and federal programs.
The Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program was established by the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Nonprofits, and Venues Act, and amended by the American Rescue Plan Act. The program includes over $16 billion in grants to shuttered venues, to be administered by SBA’s Office of Disaster Assistance.
The Storefront Grant programs, will give $10.9 million to small San Francisco businesses most impacted by the Stay-at-Home orders.
4 - LANDLORD AND TENANT RENT ASSISTANCE
San Francisco will have two rental assistance programs. The Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development is currently finalizing a multi-lingual online application and guidelines for a community-based program that will target assistance to the most vulnerable tenants. The City is planning to launch this program in mid-May.
The State of California is operating a separate rental-assistance program. To learn more about the State's Emergency Rental Assistance Program, visit HousingIsKey.com.
You can also call the State's CA COVID-19 Rent Relief Call Center at 833-430-2122 for assistance and to check eligibility.
Each program will have its own set of guidelines. San Francisco tenants and landlords will not be able to receive the same assistance from both programs.
The City-wide SF Bike & Roll Week is happening May 10 - 14, 2021!
Bike & Roll Week, organized by the SF Bicycle Coalition as part of the Safe Routes to School Partnership led by the SFMTA, is for students city-wide to celebrate getting around under their own power. Whether you’re on a bike, scooter, wheelchair, or skateboard, it’s healthy, green, and FUN. Walking counts too! K-12 students across SF are invited to participate, whether they’re back to in-person learning or still remote. Elementary students can take part in daily activities exploring their five senses as they bike and roll, while middle and high school students can form teams to play the Bike & Roll Blowout, an app-based puzzle and creativity competition that teams can only win by getting out on wheels. There’s also an all-ages art contest and resources for
P.E. teachers. Check out all the awesome activities and exciting prizes at sfbike.org/bikeandrollsf/
AUTHOR EVENT FOR CHARITY
On Tuesday, June 8th at 6 PM, District 7's Bookshop West Portal is thrilled to welcome Kevin Kwan for a live virtual event to celebrate the paperback publication of his latest book, Sex and Vanity. The iconic author of the bestselling phenomenon Crazy Rich Asians returns with the glittering tale of a young woman who finds herself torn between two men: the WASPY fiancé of her family's dreams and George Zao, the man she is desperately trying to avoid falling in love with. Tickets for the event are $35 and will include a signed paperback copy of Sex and Vanity. In recognition of the horrific attacks on the AAPI community in our communities, a portion of all ticket sales will be donated to the non-profits Stop AAPI Hate and Asian Americans Advancing Justice.
