Dear Friends & Neighbors,
The San Francisco Redistricting Task Force (RDTF) did something unthinkable last night. They voted to move forward with a previously-rejected map that will slice District 5 down the middle, threatening to take out more than half of the current D5 population.
On Saturday, after more than 180 people showed up and called in, the Task Force voted 8-1 to adopt a map that the community demanded, and which kept most of District 5 together.
But last night, at 3AM, the Task Force inexplicably reversed course, voting to move forward with a map that removes the Haight, Lower Haight, NOPA, Cole Valley, and Inner Sunset from District 5, gutting the district for no disclosed reason, and violating the Task Force’s obligation to respect existing lines and neighborhoods to the greatest extent possible.
