Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Late Wednesday evening, the San Francisco Redistricting Task Force (RDTF) voted 5-4 to reject a controversial map – what some called the “class warfare map” – after hours of public testimony.

In rejecting the map, the Task Force agreed to schedule additional meetings in order to consider alternatives and receive further public input, the first of which will be Thursday, April 21.

The Task Force agreed to a new starting point for the follow up discussions, now referred to as “Map 7” (you can view the current map, and all previous drafts on the Map Viewer).

Here is an image of Map 7 lines (light blue) of District 5, overlaid with the current D5 boundaries (dark blue)

Here’s what this current draft (subject to change when the Task Force reconvenes) would mean for D5:

What D5 would lose: All of Inner Sunset, 8 blocks in Japantown/Cathedral Hill, 2 blocks in Lower Pac Heights, 1 block adjacent to Buena Vista Park (at Waller and Masonic), and small portions near the Interior Green Belt / UCSF.
What D5 would gain: Approximately 9 residential blocks in Civic Center, and approximately 15 blocks in the Market/Octavia area known as the Hub.

Remember, this is just the current draft, and we strongly encourage anyone who has thoughts or feedback to attend the April 21st meeting, and subsequent meetings, to provide testimony to the Task Force.

While at least three additional meetings are required, as of this date, only the April 21, 2022 meeting has been confirmed. (Details, including dial-in and Webex information for the April 21 meeting are not yet published, but will be available in the coming days at this link).

After the meeting on April 21, in order to finalize a new map, the Task Force will be required to hold at least two additional meetings. As those details become available, we will continue to update you with the latest information.
