Friends and Neighbors,

We notched a major victory yesterday: The Budget and Finance Committee unanimously voted to move forward funding for our Emergency Housing Acquisition Program. This is a huge step to making sure we can save the homes of hundreds of San Franciscans at risk of displacement, and deliver on the promise of Prop I. Next up, this will go for a vote at the full Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, November 30th.

Right now, seven members of the Board of Supervisors are confirmed co-sponsors, and I want to sincerely thank President Walton and Supervisors Peskin, Chan, Ronen, Mar and Haney for their early and continued support.

This requires eight votes. We hope to announce an 8th supporter soon, which would deliver the funds. But the Mayor has come out against the proposal, and she is working to convince undecided Supervisors to vote no on November 30th.

We think it’s unconscionable to be playing politics when it comes to keeping people in their homes. That’s why it’s important that the Board and the Mayor hear directly from you, and the Anti-Displacement Coalition has set up a letter writing campaign to help make that happen. Click here to send a letter to the Mayor and all 11 members of the Board of Supervisors urging their support.

We will update you as soon as any of the four remaining supervisors publicly commits to supporting this measure. In the meantime, I wanted to express my gratitude to the incredible coalition this effort has brought together. To the housing advocates, labor leaders, and courageous residents who shared their story at our rally yesterday, I want to thank you. To the many amazing people who called in for public comment at the Committee hearing, I sincerely thank you as well.

We have an incredible opportunity before us, and after yesterday’s Committee hearing, a ton of momentum going forward. The long (and growing) list of supporters officially endorsing this measure says it all:
