Dear Neighbors and Community,Â
On behalf of the entire District 10 Office, we wish you a Happy Lunar New Year: Year of the Rabbit (which happens to be my year)! May you and your loved ones be happy, healthy, and prosperous. Gong Hay Faat Choy!Â
|
Over the weekend, this year’s celebrations were marred by the tragic shooting in Monterey Park. The shooter's motives are unknown, but this attack, carried out at a Lunar New Years celebration in a Chinese-owned dance studio, contributes to the pervasive fears I’ve heard from so many AAPI community members in my district. In recent years, anti-AAPI hate crimes have been on the rise here in San Francisco and across the country.
As your Supervisor, I want you to know that I have your back, and I will do everything in my power to keep this community safe for everyone.
There’s no simple solution to this problem, but I promise to fight the proliferation of gun violence with all possible means. We also need stronger investments in culturally competent mental health services to complement our efforts to get guns off the streets.
In this issue, we have will be highlighting the major accomplishments over the last four years as well as what we can look forward to. We have several community events coming up hosted and co-hosted by our office that I hope you can attend.

I am honored to be able to serve as your District Supervisor for the next four years. In our first four years in office, we accomplished the following:Â
- Designated the first landmark in Visitacion Valley with the St. James Presbyterian Church (celebration coming in March)
- Opened a brand new Lucky’s at Bayview Plaza
- Secured affordable housing and housing at the Power Station
- Built a brand new state-of-the-art community center right here at 1550 Evans Avenue (we also fought to make this happen for years prior to taking office and we were here for the ground-breaking and grand-opening)
- We brought back the 15 Muni Bus as an express line, in the middle of a pandemic
- We brought back the 8AX and 8BX bus lines during the pandemic
- We negotiated the reopening of schools from distance learning to in person learning, day and night, and on the weekends, with the United Educators of SF, school district administrators and an arbitrator
- We worked with our local merchants, merchant associations, and OEWD to open over a dozen new small businesses throughout District 10: on the 3rd Street corridor, on Leland Avenue, and in Dogpatch in Potrero Hill neighborhoods
- Brought Bilingual officers to Raymond Street to work with and serve the entire community
- For the first time in D10 History, we secured 4 parks in the new parks bond
- Opened up the first Vehicle Triage Center in D10
- Opened an additional Navigation Center on Evans Avenue (3 total)
- Opened the new Southeast Health Center and several parks; (some people may say that this was in the pipeline before I became supervisor, but we were involved in the behind the scenes work on the frontline for all of these projects even prior to taking office)
- We developed the first comprehensive District 10 Public Safety Plan, translated in three separate languages (Spanish, Chinese and English), along with community and all stakeholders
- We provided the first allotment of funding specifically for the Pacific Islander communities in the budget process
- We wrote the resolution with community to designate the first Pacific Islander Cultural District
- We banned e-cigarettes here in San Francisco to protect young people from being targets for a lifetime of addiction to tobacco and nicotine
- Along with the Mayor’s office, we secured $60 million dollars a year specifically to be invested in the Black community through the Dream Keepers Initiative
- We authored the first legislation to set up a reparations task force to address the injustices for the Black Community here in San Francisco
- We were the first to fight for Family Relief to ensure immigrants, gig workers and other residents that were not eligible for state or federal aid during the pandemic, received resources to pay for basic needs like rent, food, clothes, transportation and other essential needs during the pandemicÂ
- We set up the first Shipyard resident group to receive feedback and information about clean-up, directly from the Navy
- We set-up the first actual true indigenous community group to work with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District on AB617 and air quality issues in Bayview as well as the entire district
- We were the first to host as a District 10 Supervisor office, a District 10 unity event with the Asian and Black Community in Visitacion Valley to celebrate Black History Month and Lunar New Year
- We became the first, but hopefully not the last, Black Man elected to serve District 10 and elected to serve as President of the SF Board of Supervisors
With your support, these are the very firsts that we were able achieve through the first four years in office. We have so much more on the way, including:Â
- Fighting for a Fire Department Water Station, or a fire rescue on our southern waterfront
- Secure and actualize the Reparations Plan
- Bring more small business and grocery stores to District 10
- More affordable housing coming down the pipeline and more on the way
- Securing experts to analyze and research ground water and sea level rise and its' effects on the Hunters Point Shipyard; including establishing a task force to review the results and work on the Civil Grand Jury recommendations

Connecting the T-Third from Sunnydale Station
to Chinatown Rose-Pak Station
|
On Saturday, January 7, the T-Third started its historic new route, providing a direct Metro connection between Sunnydale and Chinatown-Rose Pak Station. Service runs Mondays through Fridays, 6 a.m. to midnight every 10 minutes and Saturdays and Sundays, 8 a.m. to midnight every 12 minutes.Â
The new T Third route travels north to the new Central Subway from 4th & King platform. It will no longer turn onto King Street or run along the Embarcadero and the Market Street subway. Also, the K Ingleside will now travel between Balboa Park and Embarcadero Station. Â
Our office was able to celebrate this with the Visitacion Valley community where we did a ribbon cutting ceremony, highlighted community leaders who have fought hard for this route, and passed out MTA commemorative gifts.Â

Celebrating the 1 Year Anniversary of
the Pacific Islander Resource Hut aka S.A.L.L.T
Earlier in January, we celebrated the one year anniversary of the Pacific Islander Ressource Hut, aka S.A.L.L.T. located at 150 Executive Park Boulevard. Thank you for serving the Pacific Islander community throughout San Francisco. We are going to continue to help the people who need us the most and we are going to continue to fight for all communities.Â

Ending Pretext Traffic Stops
|
On January 11, ahead of the Police Commission meeting, we had the opportunity to stand in solidarity with the Coalition to end biased traffic stops. It’s imperative that we eliminate the biased stops due to color of skin, religion, gender, and how you identify. The Police Commission voted put an end to this unconstitutional practice that evening. |
