Dear Neighbors and Community,
I hope you are all doing well!
February was a very eventful month and I am so thankful for all of the amazing Lunar New Year and Black History Month events that were full of community and culture.
Nothing exemplifies the importance of Black History like highlighting the black women who are change makers in our community. I am particularly proud that all three of our Black History Month Honorees at the Board of Supervisors, are incredible black women from District 10.

To close out Black History Month, our office is happy to announce that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a historic resolution apologizing on behalf of San Francisco to African Americans and their descendants for decades of systemic and structural discrimination, targeted acts of violence, atrocities, as well as committing to the rectification and redress of past policies and misdeeds.
The resolution was introduced by our office last December as one out of 111 recommendations from the San Francisco Reparations Plan, researched and produced by the African American Reparations Advisory Committee (AARAC). Last September, the community gathered to support the implementation of the San Francisco Reparations Plan to right the wrongs of history and address the enormous economic disparities for Black San Franciscans stating that reparations is not merely a buzzword or a political talking point but represent a moral imperative and a reckoning with the past that is long overdue.
It was timely that this resolution was heard in the Government, Audit and Oversight Committee on February 15, 2024 and passed by the full Board of Supervisors during the last week of Black History Month.
In the District 10 Office we take safety and quality of life issues very seriously. We kicked off the new year with a District 10 Safety Plan convening that included all city departments that are responsible for keeping our communities safe, along with CBO partners and community members present. Each city department provided a report-back on their role in keeping D10 residents (and San Franciscans as a whole) safe.
|
We also continue to address quality of life issues like illegal dumping, supporting our unhoused residents and neighbors. We currently have 3 navigation centers in the district (Bayshore, Evans and in the Dogpatch neighborhood). We also have a Vehicle Triage Center, that has allowed us to address major issues around the Candlestick Expressway and provide a place for people living in vehicles as we work to connect them with permanent and supportive housing options.
As always, if you have any questions or matters concerning District 10, please email my office at waltonstaff@sfgov.org.
In Community,
Supervisor Shamann Walton
