Dear Neighbors and Community,
I hope you are all doing well!
Sending well wishes for a festive and safe Halloween!
I also want to take time this Breast Cancer Awareness Month to salute all survivors and continue to support the fight for a cure.
Back in July, our office committed to working with social media companies to better understand and help reduce potentially violent content on their services. We are pleased to partner with Meta officials on this shared goal, who have offered the following statement demonstrating their continued commitment to removing content that violates their Community Standards:
“Hate speech and calls for violence have no place on our platforms, and we proactively act on this content, often before anybody sees it. We continue to improve how we detect violating content and we’re making huge advances in combating it at scale using a combination of automated technology and human moderators. As a result of these investments, prevalence (https://transparency.fb.com/policies/community-standards/hate-speech/ ) of hate speech in Q1 2023 was 0.01% to 0.02%, for example — in other words, of every 10k content views, an estimated 1-2 contained hate speech. We know that our content moderation systems will not always be perfect, but we continue to work tirelessly on prevention and detection tools to ultimately help keep communities safe.”
We also connected with TikTok officials who shared the following statement with us: TikTok Resolution Response

District 10 Office Updates
|
- Sept. 28 - It was a great afternoon spending time at the Friends of the Children-SF luncheon, with Executive Director Tim Waters, former Congresswoman (future San Mateo County Supervisor) Jackie Speier, Roselyn Swig, Louise Renne, and many supporters. The work of this mentorship organization continues to help end the cycle of poverty.
- Sept. 29 - I had the honor of standing alongside the remarkable honorees for Latino Heritage Month at City Hall. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the host committee for their incredible efforts. Congratulations and a heartfelt thank you to William Cartagena, Pilar Nuño, and Cassandra Curiel for their outstanding contributions!
- Oct. 1 - I was out bright and early, showing my support and enjoying the Brown Bombers Homecoming event! It's all about backing youth football and promoting youth sports. If you missed it, you missed out – it was a great time at Burton Field.
- Oct. 7 - An incredible moment today as we inaugurated the African American Arts and Cultural District Hub! This space is poised to foster business growth and serve as a unifying force for organizations deeply embedded in our cherished community. A proud day for inclusivity and cultural empowerment!
- Oct. 7 - There was a great turnout at the Music by Jazz the Glass event in Dogpatch! The vibrant atmosphere brought families together to revel in the perfect blend of music, sunshine, and frozen treats. A heartwarming celebration of community!

- Oct. 12 - A momentous day for the Dogpatch Potrero Community! We commemorated the groundbreaking of 105 affordable workforce housing units at the Power Station, a tribute to Supervisor Sophie Maxwell's legacy in shutting down the power plant. It's a testament that community unity can fuel responsible projects like housing development in SF. Grateful to everyone involved - from the dedicated team at Associate Capital led by Enrique and Kim, to the building and construction trades, our local LBEs, my fellow Board of Supervisors, Mayor Breed, and the entire community. Together, we've made this remarkable milestone possible.
- Oct. 12 - An incredibly special night celebrating the 50-year legacy of Young Community Developers (YCD)! It was great to see former Executive Directors, participants, Team Members and community come together to celebrate this great organization! I was super excited to witness the diaspora of all of the individuals who have been connected to their careers, promotions and economic stability opportunities through the work of YCD. I am humbled to have played a role in the work and the legacy! Here’s to 50 more years of preparation, placement and preservation!
- Oct. 16 - I joined community for a rally to stand against domestic violence and intimate partner violence! As we denounce ALL domestic violence, we must also recognize that too many Black, Brown and Indigenous women are killed from intimate partner violence each year, and we must recognize and stop this trend. As someone who has unfortunately witnessed domestic violence first-hand as a child in the home, I stand with Black Women Revolt Against Domestic Violence. I stand with all violence prevention partners and community in this fight. Thank you Geoffrea Morris for taking the lead on this.
- Oct. 19 - I had a great time with the Prosperity Worship Center’s Food Distribution on San Bruno. They give away food every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, for the Visitacion Valley/Sunnydale communities. All food sponsored by Food Runners. This is another congregation working to address food insecurity!
|
- Oct. 20 - Excited to celebrate the opening of another Wu Yee early education center here in the district on Scotia! More slots for infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers. A child’s learning experience before elementary school determines their success.
- Oct. 20 - I had an amazing opportunity to make wine at Gratta Wines in Bayview. This is neighborhood produced and neighborhood consumed right on 3rd Street!
- Oct. 21 - I had a great time checking out Potrero Hill Neighborhood Center's Potrero Fest on Connecticut and 20th. Such a great event to bring the community together with great food and local vendors.
- Oct. 21 - I joined the 2nd Annual D10 Safety Plan's Violence Prevention Peace Rally at Monarch Gardens. This peace rally is a display of solidarity with community, community leaders, and local organizations coming together to support the well-being of our communities. Thank you to YCD for putting together such a great event and bringing community together.
- Oct. 23 - I had the opportunity to host Girl Scout troop leaders for 5th graders at Daniel Webster Elementary school. One of the badges is the Inside Government badge. These young leaders had great ideas and wanted to advocate for things like: the prices of groceries, student safety around schools and also how can they do more for our unhoused community members. I wanted to let them know and understand the power they have as a group of young leaders.
